SKU Database

One place for every SKU,
package, and instruction.

Managing packaging and shipment data in Excel is inefficient and time-consuming. ShipmentPlanner gives you a live SKU database — with images, packing instructions, and dimensions — that your whole team can access in real time.

The problem

Excel-based SKU management

Managing packaging and shipment data in Excel is inefficient and time-consuming — and the problems compound as your catalog grows.

  • Multiple versions of the same Excel file circulate — nobody knows which is current
  • Warehouse staff ask the same packaging questions every shipment
  • No images or visual references when packing unfamiliar SKUs
  • When a team member leaves, institutional packaging knowledge leaves with them
  • Wrong dimensions or stale instructions cause mispacks and Amazon rejections
  • Every shipment starts with a manual lookup instead of auto-populated data
The solution

A live, shared SKU database

All data about SKUs and packaging — with instructions, images, and dimensions — in one place that your entire team accesses in real time.

  • Single source of truth: Every SKU lives in one database — dimensions, weight, case pack count, FNSKU, ASIN, and custom notes. Update once, and every shipment plan and export reflects the change.
  • Packing instructions with images: Attach photos, diagrams, and written instructions to each SKU. Warehouse staff see exactly how to pack, orient, and label each product — no guessing.
  • Bulk CSV/Excel import: Already have your data in a spreadsheet? Import it in minutes. Map your columns to ShipmentPlanner fields and your entire catalog is ready to use.
  • Role-based access: Warehouse staff get read-only access to SKU info and instructions. Backoffice staff can create, edit, and manage SKU records. No one sees more than they need.

What the SKU database includes

Five capabilities that replace your spreadsheets permanently.

Single source of truth

Every SKU lives in one database — dimensions, weight, case pack count, FNSKU, ASIN, and custom notes. Update once, and every shipment plan and export reflects the change.

Packing instructions with images

Attach photos, diagrams, and written instructions to each SKU. Warehouse staff see exactly how to pack, orient, and label each product — no guessing.

Bulk CSV/Excel import

Already have your data in a spreadsheet? Import it in minutes. Map your columns to ShipmentPlanner fields and your entire catalog is ready to use.

Role-based access

Warehouse staff get read-only access to SKU info and instructions. Backoffice staff can create, edit, and manage SKU records. No one sees more than they need.

Auto-populated in shipment plans

When you add a SKU to a shipment, its dimensions, case pack count, and instructions load automatically. No copying from one file to another.

What's stored in each SKU record

Every field your team needs, nothing they don't.

Logistics fields

  • FNSKU / ASIN / internal SKU code
  • Outer carton dimensions (L × W × H)
  • Carton weight (gross)
  • Units per case pack
  • Pallet type preference
  • Supplier reference

Warehouse-facing fields

  • Packing instructions (rich text)
  • Product photos (up to 10 per SKU)
  • Label placement diagrams
  • Orientation notes (this side up, fragile)
  • Custom warehouse notes
  • Change log (who changed what, when)
How it works

From spreadsheet chaos to one clean database

1

Import your SKU catalog

Upload a CSV or Excel file with your existing product data. Map columns (FNSKU, ASIN, dimensions, weight, case pack count) to ShipmentPlanner fields and import in one step.

2

Enrich each SKU record

Add packing instructions in plain text — how to orient the box, fragile warnings, label placement. Upload photos of the product and carton so warehouse staff have a visual reference.

3

Invite your team

Add warehouse managers and packing staff as restricted users. They can view SKU details and instructions but cannot modify records — keeping your data clean.

4

SKU data flows into every shipment

When you create a new shipment plan and add SKUs, dimensions and case pack counts load from the database automatically. No re-entry, no copy-paste, no typos.

5

Keep records current

When a supplier changes packaging, update the SKU record once. All future shipments use the new dimensions immediately. A change log shows what was updated and when.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about managing your SKU database.

How do I add SKUs to the database?

Three ways: (1) Import a CSV or Excel file in bulk — best for onboarding an existing catalog. (2) Create individual SKU records manually via the form — good for adding new products one at a time. (3) SKUs are auto-created when you add them to a shipment plan for the first time, with a prompt to fill in missing details.

What fields can I store per SKU?

Core fields: FNSKU, ASIN, SKU code, product name, outer carton dimensions (L×W×H), carton weight, units per case pack, pallet type preference. Extended fields: packing instructions (rich text), product photos (up to 10 images per SKU), warehouse notes, supplier reference, and custom tags.

Can I attach product images?

Yes. You can upload up to 10 images per SKU — photos of the product, the outer carton, label placement, packing orientation, or any visual reference your warehouse needs. Images are shown alongside packing instructions when warehouse staff view a shipment.

Can warehouse staff see the packing instructions?

Yes — that's the main purpose. Warehouse users log in to a read-only interface and see the packing instructions and images for every SKU in the shipment assigned to them. No need for printed PDF packets or emailed instruction sheets.

How many SKUs can the database hold?

There's no fixed SKU cap on any plan. The Starter plan is designed for smaller catalogs (typically under a few hundred SKUs) while Growth and Enterprise plans are suited for larger catalogs. If you have tens of thousands of SKUs, contact us and we'll confirm performance at your volume.

What happens when packaging dimensions change?

Update the SKU record once. Shipment plans created after the update automatically use the new dimensions. Existing finalized shipments are not retroactively changed — their snapshot is preserved for accuracy. A change log on each SKU record shows the history of edits.
